The Years at Charlottenborg 1961-68
Sveinssafn (the Museum of Sveinn Björnsson) and the Danish artist Henrik Vagn Jensen have in cooperation with Hafnarborg organised this exhibition. It is based on works by five artists who belonged to a small art group all studying at the Copenhagen Art Academy. They all used to exhibit together at Charlottenborg during the period of 1961-68. Originally they were five of them together, Sveinn Björnsson (1925-97) and the two brothers Henrik Vagn Jensen (f.1933) and Niels Vagn Jensen (1939-64), Ib Thorup (1941-90) and Per Henrik Friis (1943-97). They all had visions and dreams about the art however only two of them managed to dedicate their lives to it, Sveinn Björnsson who died in the middle of a turning point in his art career, and Henrik Vagn Jensen, the only one left alive. His brother, Niels, died young drowning only 25 years of age whilst saving his own art work in the sea around Greece. Per Henrik Friis did not manage because of his illness and tried to ruin all his art work, and Ib Thorup found his way in the theatre and doing films but he had a very successful career in that field. The years at Charlottenborg added great value to their lives and friendship and both Sveinn and Henrik stayed in touch and helped each other in their art.
The exhibition will be in Copenhagen in the year 2009.
