8+8 Made in Hafnarfjordur
8 + 8 Made in Hafnarfjordur is an exhibition showing works by eight designers from Iceland and abroad, collaborating with eight manufacturers from Hafnarfjörður to create innovative products. The companies range from electric heating manufacturers to concrete constructionists, creating products from stoves to garden furniture.
The new designs can be used on existing products but they can also be an entirely new product. The workshops are supposed to prototype what the designers suggest but the design is expected to be realistic for the local manufacturing facilities and to be made in limited quantity. The product outcome does not have to fit within the existing product range of the workshops however ideally using the workshops existing techniques.
The participating companies will assign a contact person throughout the project and supply the designers with information and materials free of charge.
8 designers will be chosen to work with 8 manufacturers or workshops located in Hafnarfjordur. In the beginning of March 2008 all participants will be invited to an official launch of the project. At this occasion there will be a collective presentation of all participants and the designers will get an intensive introduction to the town including its cultural and geographical history. The collaboration will have 7 months to complete their concept and finish the prototype, starting in February and present their current ideas to the project management end of May. The prototypes of the final products shall be delivered by the 25th of August.
