Einar Már Guðvarðarson 1954-2003 - Stone sculptures

Einar Már Guðvarðarson sculptor was born in Hafnarfjordur 9th of February 1954 and died in 2003. He lived and worked at Ljósaklif in Hafnarfjordur. He finished his A-levels (Stúdentspróf in Icelandic) at Menntaskólinn in Reykjavík in 1974 and graduated from the Iceland University of Education in 1979, specializing in the art and crafts field.  He studied film studies for a year at the University of Copenhagen in 1980-81, film studies in New York at the Arnold Eagle Institute in 1981-82 and sculpture at Mani, Greece in 1985-1990. He travelled a lot to study more about sculpture for example to New Zealand and Japan from 1991-92. He stayed in Italy and Greece in1993 and in Pietra Santa in Italy in 1995.
He held many private exhibition i.e. at Hafnarborg in1984, 1992 and 1994, in Deiglan at Akureyri in 1993, at Daruma Art Centre in Copenhagen in 1985 and Bispegården, The Culture Centre of Kalundborg, Denmark in 1997, at Gallery Umbra, Reykjavík in 1992 and in Pakistan at Hotel Karimbad in 1985. Einar also participated in many combined exhibitions both nationally and internationally for instance in Denmark at the Daruma Art Centre in 1990 and at Portið in Hafnarfjordur in 1994, at Hafnarhúsið (Reykjavik Art Museum) in1994, at Listhús 39, Hafnarfjordur and at Hafnarborg.

Einar also taught at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and directed the Daruma Art Centre for a while Sculptures by Einar are in many museum’s art collections, institutes and companies in Iceland and abroad as well as being in many private collections
