Jóna worked as a field leader at the ceramics department at the Iceland Academy of the arts in 1984-1994 and taught at the college until 2000. She has held many presentations and taught in Kyoto in Japan and at the Art Academy in Kecskemét in Hungary. She has managed international Socrates and Leonardo projects and taught at many ceramic conferences around the world. Jóna is an artistic counsellor at the International ceramic studio in Kecskemét (ICS-International Ceramics Studio), She is a member in both foreign and national artists unions i. e.. SIM (The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists), the Icelandic ceramic Society and the International Academy of Ceramics.

Jóna Guðvarðardóttir was born in 1949 in Hafnarfjordur.
