Life and Art WithOut Boundaries - JBK Ransu and Guðrún Bergsdóttir

Hafnarborg presents an exhibition of works by JBK Ransu and Guðrún Bergsdóttir.  The exhibition is a part of the Life and Art WithOut Boundaries Festival held in Iceland for the eighth time this spring.

The aim of Life and Art Without Boundaries Festival is to present the art of people with disabilities and to promote collaboration between disabled and non disabled artists. The exhibition in Hafnarborg is a collaboration of that kind.  People with disabilities are encouraged to participate in art events as exhibitors and also to enjoy the events as spectators.  Apart from the festival´s artistic events Life and Art WithOut Boundaries has also promoted discussion about the image of the disabled in the arts and the art of those with disabilities.

JBK Ransú studied  painting at AKI - Akademie voor Beeldend Kunst, Enschede, Netherlands. He is a working artist and art critic and has also been a visiting Instructor at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the Reykjavik Art School.  In his work Ransú often works with the ideas of art movements such as Geometric Abstraction, Pop art and Op art in a new contemporary context.

Guðrún Bergsdóttir´s background comes from various sowing and textile classes at Fjölmennt, an educational centre for adults with disabilities.  Guðrún sows threads of yarn into a fabric streched out on a frame like embroidery. The subject of her work develops in the process and she draws inspiration mainly from her own imagination. Strong colours and forms such as triangles and rectangles are characteristic of her work.
